Year 6 – Wilfrid Class
“Let your light shine before others.”
— Matthew 5:16
Welcome Wilfrid Class!
Class Teacher: Ms Jackson
Year 6 is an exciting and important year as pupils prepare for their transition to secondary school. In our class we work hard, challenge ourselves and support one another to achieve our best. We encourage independence, resilience and a love of learning as pupils complete their final year of primary school. Together we aim to create a positive, supportive and engaging classroom where every child can succeed.

SATs Information for Parents
In Year 6 pupils complete Key Stage 2 SATs (Standard Assessment Tests). These national assessments take place in May and measure progress in English and mathematics.
The tests include:
- English Reading
- Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG)
- Mathematics – Arithmetic
- Mathematics – Reasoning
We prepare pupils throughout the year through high-quality teaching, practice questions and confidence-building activities. Our focus is always on helping pupils feel calm, prepared and ready to do their best. We hold a ‘MOCK’ SATs week in March, where children sit the previous years’ tests under test conditions, so they feel confident in knowing what to expect – this often gets rid of a lot of the nervousness around the assessments. It also allows us to recognise areas to work on during the coming weeks so they are able to do their absolute best and be proud of their results.
How Parents Can Help at Home
Parents can support their children by:
- Encouraging daily reading
- Practising times tables and number facts
- Supporting with weekly homework and revision
- Talking positively about learning and building confidence
A healthy routine, good sleep and a calm approach to learning all help children perform at their best.

Our Year 6 Journey
Year 6 is a memorable year filled with opportunities to grow academically and personally. Pupils take on greater responsibility, develop leadership skills and prepare for the transition to secondary school. Throughout the year we celebrate achievements, share our learning and create lasting memories as we complete our final year at St Ignatius – including our residential and our End of Year Performances!
We look forward to sharing our learning with you!
