Student Leadership

At St. Ignatius Catholic Primary School, we firmly believe in the profound impact of student leadership and its vital role in shaping well-rounded individuals. Our commitment to fostering student leadership is grounded in the understanding that empowering young minds with leadership opportunities has numerous benefits, enriching both their personal development and the school community as a whole.

  1. Nurturing Confidence and Self-Esteem: Student leadership provides a nurturing environment where children can develop their self-confidence and self-esteem. As students take on responsibilities and actively contribute to decision-making processes, they learn to believe in their abilities and recognize the value of their unique perspectives.
  2. Cultivating Responsibility and Accountability: Being entrusted with leadership roles fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability in our students. By taking ownership of their actions and decisions, they learn the importance of integrity, dependability, and the impact their choices have on others.
  3. Developing Effective Communication Skills: Leadership roles encourage students to enhance their communication skills, both in expressing their ideas and actively listening to others. Through collaboration with peers, teachers, and the wider community, they become adept at conveying their thoughts and understanding the viewpoints of others.
  4. Encouraging Initiative and Problem-Solving: Student leadership encourages initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving. As young leaders face challenges, they develop resilience, creativity, and adaptability, fostering a growth mindset that prepares them for future endeavors.
  5. Fostering Empathy and Compassion: Engaging in leadership roles exposes students to the needs and concerns of their peers and the community. Through empathetic leadership, they learn to support and uplift others, cultivating a sense of compassion and understanding.
  6. Promoting a Positive School Culture: Student leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s culture. By demonstrating respect, inclusivity, and a commitment to the school’s values, they contribute to a positive and harmonious learning environment for all.
  7. Building a Sense of Belonging: Student leadership opportunities create a sense of belonging and ownership within the school community. Students feel connected to their school, enhancing their overall engagement in both academic and extracurricular activities.
  8. Inspiring Role Models: Student leaders serve as role models for their peers, inspiring others to pursue excellence, embrace challenges, and actively contribute to the betterment of the school and wider community.
  9. Empowering Agents of Change: Through student leadership, children recognize their potential to make a meaningful impact on the world around them. They develop a sense of agency and understand the significance of their actions in effecting positive change.
  10. Cultivating Leaders of Tomorrow: By instilling leadership skills from a young age, we are nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. Equipped with a strong foundation of leadership qualities, our students are prepared to embrace leadership roles in high school, college, and beyond, making a difference in various spheres of society.

At St. Ignatius Catholic Primary School, we view student leadership as an integral part of our ethos, and we are dedicated to providing a supportive and empowering environment where our students can flourish in faith and learning as confident, compassionate, and effective leaders.

St. Ignatius Digital Leaders – Leaders of the Future!

Digital Leaders – Childnet

The Childnet Digital Leaders Programme is a youth leadership training programme empowering young people to educate their peers about online safety. At St. Ignatius, we have recently begun to support, train and develop a group of children called our ‘Digital Leaders’. These children were selected from a group of applicants who showed their passion for making sure all children are safe when using technology in our school and at home and are completing training on an interactive, informative and fun platform with Childnet. They work through online modules, equipping them with the skills they need to go on to educate and support their peers!

They also deliver important and up-to-date messages in our celebration assemblies and across classrooms and set an example to the rest of our school. Each week, they are on the look-out for ‘Digital Champions’: this is where a class in our school has the opportunity to earn a whole class reward for being seen to be SMART (with a heart) users of technology!

Childnet Digital Leaders is…

  • Youth-led: Young people educate their peers, making online safety learning relevant, fun and effective
  • Empowering: Championing youth voice and giving young people opportunities to be role models
  • Practical: Digital Leaders gain key skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork
  • Impactful: Digital Leaders embed safer online behaviours and spread online safety knowledge
  • Engaging: Involving young people, parents and staff by harnessing young people’s expertise and experiences
  • Relevant: With new modules each term, the programme reflects the latest issues in young people’s online lives
  • Collaborative: Connect with other Digital Leader schools across the UK and wider
  • Evidence led: Showcase how your school’s online safety practice is youth-led, useful for Ofsted inspections
