Research has shown several benefits for children from learning an additional language at a young age! In addition to developing an appreciation of different cultures and customs, learning a new language can also develop speaking and listening skills which can aid a child’s general language development.
We are incredibly lucky to have three Spanish members of staff at St. Ignatius. They support us in both our teaching and learning of this amazing language and culture which is spoken in 20 countries around the world! Spanish is also the second most spoken language in the world (information from Babbel.com July 2023), following Chinese and proceeded by English, Arabic and then Hindi.
Spanish at St. Ignatius
St. Ignatius uses the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning – the ultimate aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond key stage 2.
