Catholic Virtues - ST. Ignatius Catholic Primary School

Catholic Virtues

At St Ignatius our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to nurturing the spiritual, moral, and personal development of our children, helping them grow into compassionate, responsible, and faith-filled individuals.

What Are Catholic Virtues?

Virtues are good habits that help us live in a way that reflects God’s love. Rooted in Gospel values, they guide our thoughts, words, and actions, helping us to build a strong moral character and a deeper relationship with Christ.

As a Catholic school, we embrace the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity (love), alongside the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude. These virtues form the foundation of how we teach, learn, and interact as a school community.

‘Virtues to Live By’ Programme

To help our children develop these virtues in everyday life, we follow the Virtues to Live By programme, which focuses on two key virtues each half term. This whole-school approach provides opportunities for children to:

  • Understand each virtue in the context of their faith and daily lives.
  • Reflect on how to practice the virtue through scripture, prayer, and action.
  • Recognise the virtues in themselves and others, fostering a positive and caring school environment.

Each virtue is introduced in assemblies, explored through class discussions, and reinforced through acts of kindness, service, and reflection. By embedding these virtues into our curriculum and school ethos, we empower our pupils to make good choices, develop resilience, and grow into confident and caring individuals who contribute positively to the world.

Our Virtues to Live By

Each year, we focus on a cycle of virtues that inspire and guide our school community.

Through this programme, we encourage our pupils to develop a strong moral compass, preparing them not just for academic success but for a life lived with faith, love, and purpose.
