School Newsletter 9 2017/18

Dear Parents/ Carers

Thank you to all those who returned a parent questionnaire. I have collated all these and they look very positive. We received 73 responses – about half the number of children in school. Please see the table below:

Table

Strengths of the school

  • Children feel safe
  • Children are well looked after
  • You would recommend St Ignatius to other parents

Most improved since last questionnaire

  • School communicates effectively about my child’s progress
  • School communicates effectively about how to support my child’s learning
  • You would recommend St Ignatius to other parents

To further develop

  • Homework – this always comes up as some parents want a lot of homework, some parents want some and some parents don’t want any as they feel their children work hard enough in school.
  • Extra-curricular – Mr. Bradley has already sent out a questionnaire about extra-curricular activities and has arranged for an art club to take place this half-term.
  • Many children have not experienced bullying so parents often use neither agree nor disagree. I have had 10 comments from parents regarding the fact that they have not experienced any bullying. We will continue to monitor this area and to educate the children about what bullying is (several times on purpose), and what to do if they feel that they are being bullied. We have also introduced an on-line monitoring system for both Safeguarding and behaviour monitoring which will enable us to track any incidents more easily.

Key: Green shows where responses have improved significantly (10% or more) at strongly agree/ agree.

We have few responses at disagree/ strongly disagree so green shows a general improvement but this is less than 10%.

Red shows where responses have worsened.

Summer Uniform

I have noticed that a few non-school uniform items are appearing in school. The school uniform has not changed and is found on the school website and on pg 13 of the school handbook.

Summer Uniform

Boys – grey shorts or trousers, white short sleeved shirt with red tie, or white polo shirt, plain grey / black socks. School sun hat as needed.

Girls – red checked dress, or grey skirt and white blouse with red tie or white polo shirt, plain white socks. School sun hat as needed.

Summer dresses should be a traditional fully-checked summer dress. No alternatives are permitted. No skorts, culottes, playsuits or partly checked dresses should be worn.

If you have summer uniform to buy, we still have an arrangement with M&S where all uniform bought on-line with the school logo accrues a loyalty payment for the school.

School ties can still be bought from the office for £1.50.

Indoor Footwear KS2

As the weather improves the children should hopefully be able to get onto the field at playtimes and lunchtimes. The KS2 pupils will still need a change of footwear to enable the school to remain clean throughout the day.

Vacancy

The kitchen is still looking for someone to cover 5 days per week (7.5 hours) until September. This position is to cover a maternity leave so could become permanent. This is to cover general kitchen duties.

If you are interested, or know someone who is, please contact school for contact details for Dolce.

School Dinners

A reminder that the cost of a dinner rose to £2.30 on the 1st April.

Water bottles

As the better weather has finally arrived could you please ensure your child brings their water bottle to school every day – playtimes and lunchtimes are thirsty work!

Replacement bottles can be bought at the office for £1.

Please see next page for dates

I hope that all our families had a good Easter break, despite the poor weather, and wish you all the Joys of the Easter season.

Best wishes

Mrs. J Rush
