School Newsletter 14

Dear Parents/ Carers

We are well into our final half-term before the summer break, and school is as busy as ever.

SumDog

Last week we took part in the latest Wakefield SumDog competition and 2 of our Y6 pupils achieved great success, with Charlotte getting top-place and Maddy coming in at second place. Well done girls! Also a special mention to Kayden Rodd who did exceptionally well, topping the table for most of the week. Well done Kayden!

Warmer Weather

Finally some weather that we can call summer has arrived. Please make sure that your child has their water bottle in school and that you apply some sunscreen before school.

Safeguarding

The following 2 sites may be useful to parents in helping them understand the risk factors associated with the apps their children are using and lots of on-line safety advice.

Net Aware is a site that gives information about popular games and apps. It has links to NSPCC and O2. It will tell you the age-range suitability, what the app does, plus what other parents say about the app. The site is always highly recommended on any e-safety courses for parents.

If your child is talking about a new app you can have a look on Net Aware and see if it is suitable for them.

Did you know that O2 has a site especially for parents regrading e-safety advice. They have in-store gurus but you do need to book an appointment. Also, they have on-line advice and a phone line to call – all for free and you don’t need to be an O2 customer. I am also told that it will not lead to a sales pitch.

School Games Mark

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the bronze level School Games Mark Award for the 2016/17 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With a huge number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year

Wakefield Schools in Bloom

We had wonderfully creative entries for the Wakefield in Bloom schools competition. The standard within school was extremely high.

The 3 school-level winners (in no particular order) were from Felix, Eebie and Oli, and Luke. We are awaiting the result of the final judging across the Wakefield district.

Sponsored Bounce and Fun Run

Please send all sponsor money into school following on from the Fun Run and Sponsored Bounce events. Many, many thanks to those who have already sent in their sponsor money. All the money raised at these 2 events will be given to the Trust charity – Cystic Fibrosis.

Friends

Mrs Booth has been working with the Friends to write and submit a funding bid to Tesco. We are delighted that the bid has been shortlisted, meaning a minimum of £1000 towards the cost of the planned Trim Trail. Details of how to vote will follow as soon as we have further information. Many thanks to all who have been involved in this project so far.

Garden Party

The Parish Garden Party takes place on Sunday 2nd July after 11am Mass.  (12-2pm). There will be a number of events and attractions for all. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are awaiting the results of the Logo competition.
