School Newsletter 10- 2018/19

Dear Parents/ Carers

Welcome back to our final half-term of the academic year 2018/19. We have another full half-term of events planned.

School Bus Service S18
We received final notice at the start of the week informing us that the school bus service S18 is to be withdrawn from September 2019. We have made many presentations over the past few months to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to present the schools case for the bus service remaining. However, WYCA have made the decision that the bus is not value for money.

The bus has served the school community for about 12 years and was originally put in place to reduce the number of cars on the road. Sadly, this service has come to an end. We send our thanks to Aky, our wonderful bus driver, who has always gone above and beyond for the children in his care.

An email was sent out to all parents before the half-term break, informing them that the SRE programme is to be taught across school (R-Y6) this half-term. Parents do have the legal right to withdraw their child from SRE if they wish, except for the parts that form the science curriculum.

Run to the World Cup – sponsored event
We have been asked as part of the BKCAT to take part in a fundraising event to support the building of a 3G- pitch at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School, next week. Our children will benefit at a number of the sporting events that take place at St. Wilfrid’s over the school year.

Each school is being asked to run the distance from their school to Le Havre, France where the Women’s Football World Cup is being held. That is 337 miles for our school total, equating to about 2 miles per child in school!

This can be run over the course of the week and hopefully some of the fitter members of staff will run with their children, helping the school total.

I will arrange for a covering letter and sponsor form to be given to each child and ask that you ask family and friends to sponsor this event. Many thanks in anticipation.

The Rotary Club
The Rotary Club kindly donated towards the costs for setting up the gardening club earlier this year. As a thank you for their generosity, we agreed to bring to your attention the Horbury Show which takes place on Sunday 30th June 2019 in Carr Lodge Park from 11am – 4pm.

Eden’s Forest outdoor Learning Day
The children will need to come in their outdoor PE kits and be prepared for whatever the weather decides to throw at us! Sun hats, sun cream and water bottles or jogging bottoms and water bottles. The children will need to wear sensible outdoor shoes/ trainers – suitable for outdoor activity.
This event has been sponsored by the Friends and we offer them our great thanks. It promises to be a really fun learning day for all.

St Ignatius Day
Our celebration Mass for St Ignatius will take place on Wednesday 19th June at 9:15am. All parents/ carers welcome to attend.
The following day will see the in-school celebrations. Families are being invited to a picnic lunch. Class 1 and 2 children will have their free school lunch which will be a hot buffet.
We have already sent a link for KS2 parents to pre-order their child’s Hot Buffet Lunch. Parents will need to bring their own lunches and soft drinks (No glass). Families will be able to eat their lunches together. We do hope that the weather is kind to us and that you are able to join us. It was a wonderful day last year. Weather dependent the Friends plan to set up games and activities on the field. When families leave the children must be signed out by their own class teacher.

BKCAT Singing Festival
10-12 Y3 children have been invited to take part in this year’s BKCAT Singing Festival which takes place at the church of Ss Peter and Paul’s. There is a concert in the evening, starting at 6pm to which everyone is welcome to attend. The theme of the evening is ‘Jonah-Man Jazz’ and there is to be a local band invited to play.

Please see the list of dates below.

Best wishes

Mrs. Rush
