Nursery British Science Week – Day 3

British Science Week Day 3 – Slippery Slopes

Today we investigated 4 different substances – shaving foam, washing-up liquid, tomato ketchup and golden syrup. We passed the dishes around and the children sniffed and touched them. We used words such a ‘sticky’, ‘soft’, ‘slimy’ and ‘runny’.
When we had explored all the substances, the children were asked to predict which one would slide down the ramp the quickest. Most children thought the ketchup of washing-up liquid as they were runny.
We gathered around the ramps and watched to see what happened. The washing-up liquid whizzed down. The foam didn’t move at all, even after a great deal of encouragement!
The children agreed that it had been a fun lesson!
