Welcome to Class Two!
In Class Two we encourage children to always try their best, no matter how difficult something may appear at first. We strive to provide a safe learning environment in which all children are encouraged to contribute to classroom discussions and feel valued as a member of our class.
Class Two is made up of Year 1 and Year 2 children. The teachers are Mrs Duffy (Monday – Thursday) and Mrs Strafford (Friday) and the teaching assistants are Mrs Woodall (mornings) and Miss Timlin (afternoons). We are also lucky to have Mrs Regan, Mrs O’Neill and Mrs O’Brien who work alongside children in Class 2.
They are also taught by Mrs Shelton, our music teacher every Tuesday afternoon.
The children are taught a range of exciting topics in line with the National Curriculum, linking both practical and written activities throughout as well as daily English, Maths and Phonics/Spelling.
Year 1 children are taught phonics on a daily basis and provided with interactive activities to engage and develop their understanding of reading, as well as their home reading books. In June, the Year 1 children will take part in a phonics screening check which aims to assess this knowledge.
Year 2 children will be taught a range of different spelling rules in an interactive and engaging way. They are encouraged to learn the spelling rules and apply them in their day to day writing. Year 2 children will also sit their SATs in May.
Independence and resilience are two important skills in learning that we aim to develop in Class Two by encouraging children to ‘keep going’ and ‘not give up.’ We encourage children to think about their own learning and how they can improve their work by learning from mistakes that are made.
