In Class 1, we endeavour to provide a safe, challenging, rich and varied learning environment where children feel valued, included and respected.
Class 1 is taught by Miss Smith and is made up of 20 Reception and 10 Year 1 children. The Reception children work progressively through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. Year 1 is the first of 2 years children spend in Key Stage 1, working through the National Curriculum. Our work across each curriculum is built around topic areas which change every half-term. We also follow our school RE scheme, ‘The Way, The Truth, and the Life’ where children learn about and explore the Christian faith.
We are also very lucky to have three Teaching Assistants, Mrs Noble, Mrs Crabtree and Mrs Backhouse. Together, we work collaboratively with Nursery and Class 2, to plan and deliver a wide range of experiences through a structured learning environment and our continuous provision. Mornings focus upon phonics, literacy and mathematics. Free-play activities such as arts, crafts, role play, ICT and music take place most afternoons. The children also enjoy timetabled PE twice a week, utilising both indoor and outdoor areas and equipment.
We aim to provide each child with an active, fun filled learning experience which will lay the foundations for their future.
